Saturday was a hot one in downtown Magee—but there was plenty of water, music and fun to make up for it!
The Back-to-School Splash, sponsored by Main Street Magee and the City of Magee Parks and Recreation Department, was held Saturday, August 22.
Now, I’ll just say it—the crowd wasn’t as large as everyone had hoped. But those who came had a good time, and sometimes that is what matters most!
Parks and Recreation Director Susan Mangum had the music pumped up and ready to go, and the karaoke brought out participants of all ages. I love watching people get brave enough to grab that microphone and sing!
And then there was the Magee Fire Department’s “waterfall!”
What a hit!
The firefighters created a waterfall arch using the ladder truck, giving the children a chance to run underneath and cool off. The little ones especially loved it—and on a hot August day in Mississippi, I don’t know who wouldn’t! A big thank you to the Magee Fire Department for joining in the fun and always being willing to support our community.
The Magee High School Trojan Band and Cheerleaders helped lead the parade down Main Street. The cheerleaders performed several cheers and even joined in with a little dancing as the band played. Seeing our young people participating always adds something special to a community event.
But I have to tell you, the parade of little people stole my heart!
Children made their way down Main Street on bicycles, scooters and little cars. And then there was one precious little girl who came along on what looked like a white horse—except it wasn’t a real horse! I don’t even know exactly what you call the thing, but she rode it all the way up Main Street. I just hate I didn’t get a picture because it was absolutely precious!
Of course, there were bouncy houses and other activities to keep the children busy and smiling throughout the day. The food was enjoyed by all!
I appreciate Main Street Magee and everyone who continues working to provide family-friendly activities for our community. Events don’t just happen. They take people willing to plan, organize, work and show up.
