Did you know February is National Heart Health Month? The American Heart Association saw a need to bring awareness of the prevalence of heart disease in women. In 2004 the AHA began Go Red for Women which is social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States. This year makes the second year SCTC students in Health Informatics & Health Science classes participated in the American Heart Association’s signature women’s initiative, Go Red for Women. This is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally. It’s no longer just about wearing red; it’s no longer just about sharing heart health facts. It’s about all women making a commitment to stand together with Go Red and taking charge of their own heart health as well as the health of those they can’t bear to live without.
