TECH CENTER FEATURES AUTOMOTIVE & DIESEL MECHANICS PROGRAM
Simpson County Technical Center is featuring its Automotive & Diesel Mechanics Program. This school year we are phasing out Automotive and have added Diesel Service Technology. Based on current workforce needs in the diesel technology industry and the fact that there are at least four tractor dealerships and two diesel injector companies in Simpson County, we have determined that it is in our students’ best interest to convert our current Auto Service Technology program to Diesel Service Technology. Mr. Dean Batton has continued as the instructor for this new program as we phase auto technology out. The Diesel Mechanics Program is designed to repair complex electric, hydraulic, air brake and diesel systems. Students will have the opportunity to practice shop and work safety, locate and interpret repair specifications and processes, remove and replace components, operate tools and equipment, and service/repair/diagnose the condition of defective components or systems.
Students in the program have the option of joining SkillsUSA, the student organization for career and technical students enrolled in this program. The SkillsUSA membership, students have the opportunity to showcase skills learned at various competitions at the district, state and national levels.
