SCSD’s Public Relations Specialist Wins Awards at State Conference

Arlicia Jordan, the Simpson County School District (SCSD) Public Relations Specialist, recently took home several awards at the Mississippi School Public Relations Association’s (MSPRA) Annual Awards Luncheon.

MSPRA is a state affiliate of the National School Public Relations Association, a professional organization with more than 2,500 members who work primarily as communication directors in public school districts and education organizations.
During the annual spring conference held in Jackson, Jordan won first place for Excellence in Writing and was a finalist for both the Excellence in Special Purpose Publications and the Excellence in Electronic Newsletter divisions.

Jordan, who first joined SCSD in 2021 – single-handedly creating the newly developed position and division – said she was very surprised to have been recognized with awards.

“Most of the entries that were submitted for the awards ceremony were entered by veterans, who already have well-established public relations departments at their respective districts across the state,” said Jordan. “I am still fairly new to K-12 PR, so it was an honor to have my first-year work, in this role, be recognized on a state level.”

Since her arrival to SCSD, Jordan has facilitated internal and external communication for the district by producing a weekly and monthly newsletter, writing press releases, designing and creating content for marketing materials, managing the district’s social media platforms and website, and much more.

Most impressive, arguably, is her graphic design work on images to promote SCSD’s Portrait of a Graduate, Portrait of an Educator and Portrait of a Leader – images that will become visual representations to promote and identify the district’s brand, vision and mission throughout the district, community and state.

In the future, Jordan hopes to continue to add and create innovative ways to engage and inform internal and external stakeholders of the many student and educator accomplishments throughout the district.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve Simpson County School District,” said Jordan. “I am passionate about public relations and the type of work I am afforded to do, and I am excited to continue to use my skills to help the district achieve its goals.”
