SCSD Welcomes New Director of Special Education
Simpson County School District (SCSD) recently welcomed Curtis Wicker as its new Director of Special Education (SPED), effective Dec. 13, 2021. He succeeds Jeanie Pigg, who retired from SCSD in October, after serving more than 20 years with the district.
Wicker has extensive experience in secondary education, having served in a variety of positions throughout south Mississippi, to include exceptional education services coordinator, school psychologist and assistant principal. Prior to joining SCSD, he was the assistant director of exceptional education for Laurel School District.
“We are all very excited to have Mr. Curtis Wicker join our team,” said Dr. Deirdre Randall, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. “He brings a wealth of experience in the world of special services and a true dedication to the students he serves. He will be a valuable member to our leadership team.”
In his new role as SPED director, Wicker is responsible for supervising the special education and support services programs to serve the educational needs of all SCSD students.
Wicker holds a Bachelor of Science in psychology and an Educational Specialist in educational administration from The University of Southern Mississippi and both a Master of Science and an Educational Specialist in educational psychology from Mississippi State University.
He and his family reside in Magee.
