Simpson County School Board agreed to accept the proposal from Adams and Reese, LLP to serve as board counsel during a special called meeting Monday, March 27, 2023.

The firm will serve as counsel but John S. Hooks will be the dedicated liaison for the firm and will be point person for most legal issues.  Hooks is originally from Mendenhall, MS. The firm will provide general legal advice to the board, and as directed by the board and the administration of the district.

The board tabled the decision to hire a bond attorney until after an attorney had been hired so the attorney can have input on the decision.

Board member Lilly Hardy participated in the meeting via zoom, and Superintendent Dr. Holloway joined by zoom due to an out of town meeting he was attending. All other members were present.

Approval was granted to Schneider Electric to complete a needs assessment on the cost of a consolidated high school versus two high schools. The study will include the cost of operation for Mendenhall Junior High. The study will included all utilities other than water, and personnel. The district will work on the personnel figures to report back to the board.

The board approved the partnership with Simpson General Hospital to provide qualified personnel to administer sports medicine care for student athletes at all Mendenhall High School varsity athletic events for the 2023-2024 school year.

Dr. Deirdre Randall closed the meeting with discussing Goal #1 of the School Board by updating them with the results of the previous benchmarks.

Board members will be attending the National Convention in Tampa, FL March 30 – April 2, 2023.

The next board meeting is schedule for Thursday, April 13, 2023.
