Thursday, February 8, 2018, 12 Simpson County Academy students traveled to Mississippi College to compete in the annual Mathematics and Science Competition.
During the competition, each student took two tests in any combination of the following categories: math, biology, chemistry, physics, or computer science. Each test rewarded scholarships to students who placed in the top percentile. Waters Adkins (senior) and Austin Lane (junior) at Simpson placed in the top 20 percentile in Computer Science and won a $1000 scholarship renewable for 4 years.
Simpson also had a Quiz Bowl team that competed in the team event at the competition. The SCA Quiz Bowl team was composed of 4 members: Cameron Lea (senior), Sarah Berry (senior), Bailey Rayborn (senior), and Austin Lane (junior). The team won 1st place in the first round of competition and went on to compete in the overall Quiz Bowl in which the team placed 3rd!
