Simpson County Academy held their Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Honor Society Induction Ceremony Monday, March 7, 2016. Peyton Neely, a Senior Honor Society Member, opened the ceremony in prayer. Current Honor Society Members stood as Headmaster Billy Wayne Hankins announced their names beginning with the eighth grade. Maintaining a 95 grade average is a requirement for membership into the society. Hankins also reminded the attendees of the “No Excuse” rule. Counselor Jamie Rogers spoke of the significance of lighting of the candles. Rogers lit the eternal candle known as Knowledge. She emphasized the other candles: Scholarship, Character, Service, and Leadership all originate from Knowledge.
Cullen Shows spoke briefly and lit the Scholarship candle. The Character candle was lit by Peyton Neely after he spoke on the importance of Character. Logan Barnard was next to speak on the topic of Service and then he lit the Service candle. Lastly, Sarah Berry spoke concerning Leadership and the she lit the final candle for Leadership.
Headmaster Hankins announced the new honor society members beginning with the 7th grade students.
In alphabetical order: Joseph Berry, Alex Broadhead, Landon Brown, Cooper Carrico, Blake Daniels, Jacob Johns, Mollie Jones, Ramsey Jones, Rayelle Nations, Noah Overstreet, Claire Polk, Blair Smith, Warner Watkins, and Mary M. White.
Newest member of the Honor Society for 10th grade was Tate Clayburn.
Caylee Yelverton was the 11th grade new member. Matthew Harrison and Sara Varner were the newest society members for the 2016 Senior Class.
All new members received a Honor Society certificate and pin.
