When I received the word this weekend that Dirt Cheap was filing bankruptcy, I was saddened…not for just the loyal customers but for the employees who have faithfully served this institution.
Times change…business models change…customers wants change. Retailing in this day and age is tough. Customers are tough and finding employees is even tougher!
Another one bites the dust!
When Big Lots threw in the towel, I knew things were coming unhinged at the seam.
We can look back to our own downtown and the stores that no longer exist. We must support our local business. (I can’t say that enough—and MageeNews.com is a local business that relies strictly on advertising)
I have no idea what will happen with the Dirt Cheap building…we don’t need empty buildings.

Dirt Cheap files for bankruptcy

Dirt Cheap, which was founded in Hattiesburg and grew to over 60 locations in the Southeast, has filed for bankruptcy.
“The store’s parent company filed documents with the District of Delaware last week,” WJTV reported. “The documents indicate stores will be holding “store closing” sales to be completed by the end of the year.”
WJTV noted, “Dirt Cheap joins a growing list of retailers — more recently, Big Lots and True Value — that have filed for bankruptcy this year.”
