Rufus Edward Shows, 76, of Mendenhall, MS, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, August 23, at his home surrounded by family.
Rufus was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He retired from UPS after 35 years of driving an 18-wheeler, was a barber in his early years, and was a skilled carpenter. He served in the Mississippi Army National Guard as a demolition instructor. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Mendenhall, MS. His retirement years were dedicated to building his own home with his carpentry skills and spending time with his wife and grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and auto restoration.
He is preceded in death by his parents Norman and Mildred Shows of Mendenhall.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Cindy Dampeer Shows of Mendenhall, two daughters; Charity Shows Johnston (Kevin) of Mendenhall, MS and Stacey Davis (Greg) of Canton, MS. He leaves behind seven grandchildren; Callie Breaux (Garrett), Tyler Johnston, Shelby Davis, Ryan Davis, Taylor Johnston, Abigail Johnston, and Garrett Johnston as well as two great-grandchildren Levi & Honey Bea Breaux. He is also survived by a brother, Gary Shows (Donna) of Magee, MS.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 29, at 10:00 a.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, with funeral services at 11:00 a.m., followed by a 12 p.m. burial service. Bro. Chuck Morgan and Bro. Tim Parker will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Johnston, Ryan Davis, Garrett Johnston, Greg Davis, Garrett Breaux, and Josh Breaux.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Johnston and Levi Breaux.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that love offerings be made to Priority One Bank in Mendenhall, MS, for the care of Cindy Shows. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031.
