Roy L. “Buddy” Smith, Sr., 83 of Mendenhall, Mississippi passed away from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at the University Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. He was born Wednesday, July 20, 1938, in Mendenhall, Mississippi.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall at 3077 Simpson Hwy 13, Mendenhall, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. The burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Mendenhall, Mississippi. Brother Roger Lee will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. 601-847-4401
Mr. Buddy was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mendenhall, Mississippi. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He served in the Military Guard, Navy, and Naval Reserve from 1955 – 1961. He enjoyed working in his garden, watching the Nascar races, watching football, a devoted Ole Miss fan, and most of all spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all of his loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Henry Smith; mother, Thelma Lee Maddox Smith; and brothers and sisters Ralph, Carol, D.D., Barbara, Erie, Cheet.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-three years, Nancy Jay Smith of Mendenhall, MS; two sons, Roy L. Smith, Jr. (Beth) of Bolton, MS and Brantly Lee Smith (Dawn) of Harrisville, MS; one daughter, Sandra Smith Blakeney (Sam) of Pinola, MS, two step-daughters, Nannette Bivins (Paul) of Utica, MS, and Stephanie Dunn (Ed) of Union, MS; seven grandchildren, Kyle (Harlie), Morgan (Noah), Austin (Carmen), Elijah, Jeremiah, Isaac, and Charity; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Kaye-Ann, Logan, and Haley; and a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Sam, Lee, Kyle, Austin, Noah, and Jared. Honorary pallbearers will be Elijah, Jeremiah, Isaac, Jacob Riley, and Logan.
