Routine Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest
While on routine patrol Tuesday March 11, 2015, Magee Police DUI Officer Shane Fewell observed a brown Honda Civic carelessly driving on Hwy 49 South, then turning onto Siloam Road taking up both lanes of traffic. At this time, Officer Fewell initiated a traffic stop, subsequently identifying the driver as, Michael Barnes, who was discovered to have a suspended license, according to authorities.
During the traffic stop investigation, Officer Fewell detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. After obtaining consent from Barnes to search the vehicle, Officer Fewell, along with Officer Vance Hamilton, discovered a glass meth pipe beside the driver’s seat. Officials also reported finding a small wrapper containing methamphetamine, and one small wrapper of containing marijuana.
Barnes also admitted to smoking marijuana earlier that day, police also reported.
According to police records, Barnes was arrested and booked on the following charges: DUI Other 2nd, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Paraphernalia, DWLS, No Insurance, and Careless Driving.
