Ag Commissioner Gipson Announces Events for the Second Weekend of the Dixie National Rodeo
STATE FAIRGROUNDS, Miss. –Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson highlighted the successes of the first weekend of the Dixie National Rodeo and provided details of upcoming events as the second weekend of the Rodeo gets kicked off. Commissioner Gipson was joined by Rorey Lemmel, Owner of Harper & Morgan Rodeo Company, and the Dixie National Rodeo Announcers Andy Stewart and Garrett Yerigan.
The Dixie National Rodeo, the largest rodeo east of the Mississippi River, continues with fast-action bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, tie-down roping, team roping, steer wrestling and barrel racing Wednesday, February 12, at 7:00 p.m. in the Mississippi Coliseum with a performance from Clay Walker, whose hits include “Live Until I Die,” “If I Could Make a Living” and “Then What.” Thursday and Friday night rodeo performances featuring Zach Top and Ella Langley are sold out, but a limited number of concert-only tickets for Ella Langley are available for purchase at the box office. The professional rodeo concludes on Saturday, February 15, with two performances featuring Gretchen Wilson, whose hits include “Redneck Woman” and “Here for the Party,” at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Commissioner Gipson encourages the public to attend the Dixie National High School Rodeo on Sunday, February 16, at 2:00 p.m. in the Coliseum. “We are proud to host, for the very first time, the Dixie National High School Rodeo. Having a high school rodeo is one of the great ways we can support our young rodeo competitors. They will have the opportunity to compete on the floor of the historic Dixie National, where world champions are currently competing. I encourage the public to come out and fill the stands in the Coliseum on Sunday to support our youth as we close out another great year of the Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo,” said Commissioner Gipson.
Mississippi high school rodeo contestants will earn points toward the rodeo nationals during the Dixie National High School Rodeo. This rodeo is one of only 10 high school rodeos that count towards points to get to nationals. Tickets are $20.
In addition to the Dixie National Rodeo, many other events will be taking place on the Mississippi Fairgrounds including the Mississippi Ag and Outdoor Expo, Cowboy Corner, Dixie National Quarter Horse Show and open livestock shows through Sunday, February 16.

§ Dixie National Quarter Horse Show – Continues through February 16 in the Equine Center. The show starts at 8:00 a.m. daily. Multiple Quarter Horse equine events will be taking place daily, and the Dixie National Quarter Horse Expo will be in the upper level of the Equine Center.
§ Dixie National High School Rodeo – February 16 at 2:00 p.m. in the Coliseum.
