A project to rehabilitate the U.S. Highway 98 bridge over the Canadian National/ Illinois Central (CNIC) Railroad continues in McComb.

“This bridge is traveled heavily by travelers, commercial vehicles and residents of McComb,” said Commissioner King. “A routine inspection revealed that due to the everyday wear and tear of traffic, repairs were needed to ensure the bridge would continue to be safe for motorists now and for years to come.”

Roadway widening and the bridge deck overlay are complete, and lanes are open in both directions.

Crews have also added bridge rails and made repairs under the bridge. Work began in June of 2018 and is expected to wrap up late fall 2019.

This approximately $4.9 million construction project was awarded to Key, LLC of Madison.

Although the bridge is open to traffic, workers are still present as the project nears completion.

“Motorists are reminded to stay alert and avoid all distractions through work zones,” said Melinda McGrath, P.E., MDOT Executive Director.

Interchange improvements on U.S. Highway 84 at Auburn Road in Lincoln County

An approximately $2.9 million project to improve the intersection of U.S. Highway 84 and Auburn Road is underway in Lincoln County.

“A number of wrecks have occurred in this area, and we discovered the location of the current intersection was a contributing factor,” says McGrath. “This project is geared towards improving motorist safety and decreasing accidents.”

Signal poles, traffic signal heads and a turning lane have been added. The north half of Auburn Road is complete, and the south half of Auburn Road and the intersection of Dead End/ Auburn Road is now being constructed.

This project was awarded to Midway Construction, Inc. of Roxie.

Work began in March and is expected to wrap up early winter.

Overlay projects nearing completion in Adams and Lincoln Counties

In Lincoln County, Dickerson and Bowen Inc. were awarded a $13.5 million overlay project. The project starts at Bogue Chitto exit on I-55 and stretches 9 miles to the Bogue Chitto River.

Work began May of 2018 and is expected to be completed late fall. Final striping and final mowing are the only tasks remaining.

In Adams County, a $2.9 million overlay project was awarded in the spring of 2019 to The Blain Companies of Natchez.

The project stretches 3 miles on U.S. Highway 84 from the Mississippi River Bridge to U.S. Highway 61.

A final inspection was held late September. The contractor is working to complete additional tasks.
