The Secretary of State’s Office is currently conducting public auctions in Jackson and Vicksburg. This follows successful sales in Greenville, Greenwood, Meridian and McComb, raising over $1-Million for schools, cities and counties.
Tax-forfeited properties are a drain on Mississippi communities. Returning these properties to private ownership cleans up our neighborhoods and reduces the opportunity for crime.
In a further effort to reduce the number of tax-forfeited properties lying dormant with the State, our Agency now allows you to search and apply for property online– you can submit an offer in minutes.
Properties forfeit to the State of Mississippi after three years of non-payment of ad valorem taxes. Since the last economic downturn, Mississippi faces an epidemic of these properties. Currently, the State of Mississippi holds more than 13,000 parcels of tax forfeited property valued at over $84-Million.
Tax-forfeited properties benefit no one, especially not the taxpayer. More tax revenue means more money for education and infrastructure.
We encourage you to visit the Secretary of State’s website at https://www.sos.ms.gov/Public-Lands/Pages/Tax-Forfeited-Lands.aspx. Help us clean up our communities by purchasing tax-forfeited properties in Mississippi. Visit our website and review the list of available properties and submit an offer to purchase these parcels.
If you have any questions, or need additional information, contact the Secretary of State’s Office, Public Lands Division, at 601-359-5156. We look forward to hearing from you.
