The Magee Board of Alderman met Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at Magee City Hall. The meeting was called to order at 6:30pm by Mayor Jimmy Clyde. Mayor Clyde also led in the Pledge of Allegiance and opened the meeting with prayer.
All board members and city attorney was present except for Alderman Murry Keith who was absent due to attending a wake.
Minutes and dockets were approved
Latoria Walker came before the board to ask for the boards direction in a matter of her land purchase and purchasing a new mobile home. Ms. Walker stated she was given false information when she purchased some land for replacing a mobile home on the property. One thing, Walker stated she was told she had one year to replace the mobile home on the property when after more questions was asked it was only 6 months. Ms. Walker informed the board of the moneys she had spent on her land and mobile home purchase. After discussion, the city attorney directed Ms. Walker to first go before the Zoning Committee. This issue should be heard at the next zoning meeting on March 8th.
Topic of a special inspector for the new Magee Elementary School was also mentioned. Joe Worrell and Charlie Valadie spoke on this topic and a few board members voiced their opinions of liability. City Attorney, Bruce Smith, also spoke his concerns of liability issues with not having a special inspector.
Selling cars in parking lots was also discussed. Conclusion was really nothing they can do about it right now until a new zoning is performed.
The jake brake ordinance was also mentioned with positive feedback. The city attorney will work on the ordinance that will be brought before the board in an upcoming meeting.
Little was mentioned concerning the Department of Corrections Lease and the report on paper recycling. The board is waiting on more information.
There were no police nor fire department matters to discuss during this meeting.
In public works department, Nevis presented an application for meter reader for hire. Joe Curtis Hubbard was unanimously approved.
Mayor Clyde asked the approval for lunch for the Mayor’s Youth Council in March in Jackson as they attend a day conference. Board Approved.
Final estimate for frontage road was approved.
Car sales in parking lots was mentioned with no action taken at this time.
No personnel and no emergency matters were discussed.
