Mayor Dale Berry called the meeting to order. Ward 2 Alderman Mathew Hickman led in prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Attorney Chris Purdum was present at the meeting due to City Attorney Bruce Smith’s absence.
Minutes and claim docket were approved.
The board gave approval for Choctaw Street near The Vault to be closed Saturday, September 1st (Labor Day Weekend) from 8:00 AM -11:59 PM.

A short discussion was held concerning the Community Work Center rental by the organization MORE. The lease is $2,500 per month. The Mayor explained that now women prisoners would be housed at the facility. Alderman Patrick Brown expressed concern over the lack of information about the exact plans for the facility.
A meeting is to be scheduled with Brother Henderson. All board members expressed a desire for additional information before a decision can be made concerning lease of the building.
The MORE group does not want to proceed with plans if assurance of lease of the building is not in place.
A discussion was held concerning the Municipal Ad Valorem Tax exemption for economic development. The board decided to turn the matter over to the Zoning Commission. The Zoning Commission under the direction of Zoning Director David Dunn will make a recommendation to the board as to what area should be designated to receive the tax break.

Mayor Berry informed the board that it is legal to put weight limits on city streets. Discussion was held concerning the damage done to newly paved streets due to the weight of some vehicles.
Alderman Lane Steele noted that when time comes to purchase a new garbage truck, a single axle truck should be considered. The garbage trucks are hard on city streets and take the same route two times per week.

In airport matters, the board approved to accept Barge Design Solution for remolding at the air port. Aldermen Brown spoke on the need to know the people who are in authority with the airport. Randy Hutchison is over our airport area. Tony Booth is the FFA person for our area. The board is looking at the possibility of airport board committee members attending an annual conference.
No discussion was necessary for the Building Inspector, Fire Department, or Police Department.
Tim Bray, public works employee requested to the Mayor that he be allowed to take his city truck home each night. Mr. Bray lives in Taylorsville. Discussion was held and the board agreed to continue the policy of city vehicles not being taken home from work if the individual lives outside the Magee city limits.
Reminder that the board would meet Wednesday night to continue budget hearings. A public budget hearing is scheduled for Thursday @ 5 PM.
