Students at Magee High School experienced a real reality check.

Students are given a budget and salary based on their present GPA and the type job they are most likely to be paired with in real life according to their grades.

A monthly salary one could have a based of $3,834.00. A statement is shown where taxes are taken from the gross pay. The students then see they what net salary remains for the month.

Students then have to visit several different stations. These stations consist of clothing, communications, food, housing, insurance, transportation, reality wheel, and temptation (which could be a pet, beauty treatment, etc.).

At each station the student will see what the cost remaining involves. Each expense is deducted from the monthly salary.

Students visit a reality wheel. What ever the wheel stops on when spinning could be a debit or credit. This could be items like cost of a flat tire, books, trips, interest gained, etc.

Once all stations have been visited the student will see if they have enough money to cover the necessities of life for the month. If there is not enough money students then realize the importance of a well paying job and education.

Cheryl Oggs, with Mississippi Credit Union, is in charge of the fair. Central Sunbelt Credit Union in Magee was the sponsor of the event.
