Friday Night the Bulldogs traveled to Raleigh to take on the defending 3A State Champion Lions. This game turned into a classic, defensive struggle. In the end the Lions made a couple more plays late that allowed them to earn a 18-7 Victory.

The Bulldogs’ offense found it difficult to move the ball on the stingy Raleigh defense throughout the night. In the first half the Bulldog punt team became very familiar with the field. Their best drive of the first half was halted by a holding penalty. They didn’t find much success on the ground on or in the air.

However, the defense kept the Dogs in the game all night. After some early missed tackles, they began to shut down Raleigh’s rushing attack and put constant pressure on the quarterback. Despite giving up a late td in the first half, the Dogs felt confident only down 6-0 at the half.

The Bulldogs hit big pass plays on their lone scoring drive. That drive saw Talan Warren hit multiple targets (included a catch and run by tight end Brandon Hancock that set up first and goal). Two plays later Jaymion Gray made a huge grab in the corner of the end zone. Trace Allen added the extra point, Mize now led 7-6 in the fourth.

The Bulldogs continued to play tough on defense, but two costly turnovers ( a pick six put the Lions ahead 12-7) by the Bulldogs’ offense late in the game proved to be the difference. After another interception, the Lions would add 6 more with less than two minutes. Thus putting the game out of reach at 18-7.

This was a good game between two good football teams. Despite a great defensive effort, the Bulldogs came up short. The Bulldogs will be home at The Hill next week hosting the 4-0 Wesson Cobras.
