Press Release

On May 5, 2015 at approximately 1539 hours, Officer Will Douglas stopped a vehicle driven by Jarvis Newsome for speeding 54 in a 35 zone on 149 Highway west city limits. Newsome also had an expired tag. K9 Officer Landon Ates spoke with Newsome and smelled a strong oder of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Newsome admitted that he had ½ pound of marijuana in his possession in the vehicle. Lt. Joey Womack arrived on scene and Newsome admitted to being in possession of the marijuana and what his intentions were to do with the marijuana. Magee Police Department seized the vehicle Newsome was driving (a 2012 Ford Focus). Newsome was charged with possession of a controlled substance to wit Marijuana (214 grams or 7 and a half ounces) with intent to distribute. Newsome will appear before Judge Eugene Knight where he will have an initial appearance and a bond set.
