Tesa Duckworth, graduate of Florence High School and MS College and wife of Herman and mother of Josh, Jeremy, and J. D., was recognized June 9, 2018 at the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame ceremony. The Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame recognized the Women’s Professional Basketball League (WBL) for their contributions to the game with a display at the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame entitled “Trailblazers of the Game”. The WBL joined eight other teams and organizations that have been recognized as “Trailblazers of the Game.” The WBL was the first professional women’s basketball league in the United States, playing three seasons from 1978 to 1981.

Just think “our” Tesa was a Trailblazer in women’s sports! I think Tesa grew up with a basketball bouncing! She set high standards everywhere she played. At Mississippi College, Tesa was named Most Valuable Player her Senior year.

After graduation from college, Tesa joined the Chicago Hustle from 1978-79. She played with the New Orleans Pride from 1978-80. Tesa loved her professional  years on the court, but she came home to Magee, MS where she coached and taught at Magee School for 14 years (1980-94).

Tesa has always been a “go-get-er.” From college days, Tesa was interested in becoming a Physical Therapist. She made that dream come true in 1996 and still works part-time as a PT.

“Having your named called out and walking onto the stage at the Basketball Hall of Fame was awesome,” said Tesa. Tesa and Herman attended the event where she signed autographs with other WBL members.

Congratulations on an honor well deserved. You make us proud!
