Jackson, Miss.—Tax-forfeited property sale proceeds from a recent online auction in Harrison County generated $91,411.05.
550 bids were made, with 85 parcels sold and returned to the tax rolls. There were 301 tax-forfeited properties, valued at over $2 million in the auction. Money raised through the recent sales of tax-forfeited property in Harrison County will be distributed in varying amounts to the cities of Biloxi, D’Iberville, Gulfport, Long Beach, and Pass Christian; school districts in Harrison County, Biloxi, Gulfport, Long Beach, and Pass Christian; Harrison County Board of Supervisors; Harrison County Sheriff’s Office; and Harrison County Chancery Clerk’s Office.
Since Fiscal Year 2015, the Secretary of State’s Office has turned over $150,000 in tax-forfeited property sales to Harrison County, and cities and schools within the county. There are now 553 total parcels remaining in Harrison County as compared to 2015 when there were over 700 parcels in the county.
“Proceeds from tax-forfeited property auctions help our counties, cities, and schools, and parcels are returned to productive use,” stated Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann.
Secretary Hosemann launched online auctions in July 2016 to streamline the purchase of properties forfeited to the State for non-payment of ad valorem taxes. In recent years, successful auctions in Bay St. Louis, Bolivar County, Greenville, Greenwood, Hinds County, Jackson, Jones County, Madison County, McComb, Meridian, Pearl River County, Rankin County, Warren County, Waveland, Yazoo City, and many other communities, have raised millions of thousands of dollars for Mississippi schools, municipalities, and counties.
