One Little Word!
I have seen Ron Reagan, avowed atheist, on TV asking for support for his cause to free America from religion. He then says that our Constitution guarantees freedom from religion. You notice the word “FROM”. How many of you caught his change of wording of the constitution? It is amazing how people alter and change things to suit their own personal beliefs!
The first amendment to the US Constitution states:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances” (I added the emphasis) The final wording was accepted by the House of Representatives on 1789-SEP-24; and by the Senate on 1789-SEP-25. It was ratified by the States in 1791.
It is the difference of one word, “OF” versus “FROM” Do we all understand the power of words? Words can destroy or build, they can encourage or belittle, and they can be tools of joy or hatred! We can manipulate the people, we can call wrong things right, and we can give impassioned speeches to people and convince them of most anything!! Our only protection is the knowledge and strength of our beliefs!
Change the wording from “Freedom of Religion” to “Freedom from Religion” and the basic principles of our nation are changed forever. How many of us know enough to fight with words and actions? We must listen, learn, and pray for guidance and wisdom. Knowing our rights and our protections under the constitution is essential to maintaining our freedoms! Knowing our Bible is essential to peace in the midst of turmoil!
