Connor Cone, a senior at Simpson Academy, chose educating   the public about Epilepsy for his Senior project.  The project begins in the spring of the year and continues throughout the summer and ends in December.

Connor’s mother, Mitzi Nichols Floyd, has suffered with epilepsy, a neurological disorder, since middle school.

Connor has walked the walk with his mama as she has suffered numerous seizures thought out his life.  When Connor was about six years old he became aware of her condition.

From an early age, Mitzi taught Connor what to do in case of an emergency.  “When mother has a seizure, she can’t speak,” stated Connor.  “She told me to tell her to squeeze my hand when she could hear me.  Mother cannot talk during or after a seizure,” explained Connor.

One of the many amazing things about Mitzi is that even as she dealt with such a difficult disorder, she became a registered nurse and then a mental health (psychiatric) nurse practitioner. Mitzi is employed with Region 8.

Connor’s senior project mentor is Dr. Ruth Fredrick. He spent time shadowing Dr. Fredrick and dealt firsthand with other types of neurological disorders.

Connor is a graduate of the certified Seizure Safety course and qualified to teach a seizure safety course.   He held a seminar for the teachers at Simpson Academy instructing what should be done if a student or teacher has a seizure.

I hope you will take time to watch the video.  I learned so much!

Connor is the grandson of Dot Nichols and Gary Nichols and Zeno and Donna Cone.  Connor’s dad is Chris Cone of New Hebron.

Connor will present a 10-12 minute speech to judges who will score his presentation.

We are so thankful to Conner for bringing awareness to epilepsy. Our son, Watson, has seizures and the safety course is so important.
