Saturday night’s Magee/McLaurin reunion held at the Simpson County Country Club was a huge success.  Approximately 200 former football players attended the event.

Every decade from the 1940’s to the 2000’s were represented.  One of my friends told me Coach Jack Bailey, the oldest coach in attendance made a tremendous speech sharing history that many had never heard.

Where were you on September 11th?

Where were you on September 11th?

September 11, 2025

My “cuz” Bill Caughman was the oldest former player in attendance.  Bill is 82 and was the quarterback when he was in high school at Magee. Many former head coaches and assistant coaches attended the event.

I told Coach Earnest Jaynes, who was the head of the committee, I was horrified that former cheerleaders and band members plus fans were not invited.  …but really, I understood…the committee had to start somewhere!

I do love some Trojan football and especially that 1960’s group!  Our years were spent in the Little Dixie Conference.  During the 60’s, Magee dominated…in the 5o’s Mendenhall dominated! Don’t you just love a good ole rivalry.  Our band was fabulous…..teachers wonderful…and coaches wild and strict. Looking back in time…so often we choose only to remember the good…

If Coach Jaynes has his way, the reunion will become an annual event.  He even has plans for tailgating parties throughout the upcoming season.

Earnest Jaynes is one of the few men that everyone liked and respected…and still do until this day.  He didn’t put up with any mess…and he expected the best from everyone…classroom and playing field.

The reunion was for guys who had ever worn a McLaurin or Magee football jersey.  Maybe you fit this category and missed this reunion…just stay tuned…he’s got big plans.

My buddy Billy Loft0n asked Patrice why MageeNews.com did not cover…and she explained we neither one wore a football uniform!  I don’t have many pictures because I “minded” Coach Jaynes.  If you have pictures you can share with me…please send to sue@mageeNews.com

Don’t miss Coach Jaynes recap video of the reunion.  The video is on the home page of MageeNews.com in the Featured video section near the bottom of the home page!
