Dressing for a New Year’s Eve party can be fun and nerve racking! Everyone wants to take pictures, there are the comments on your outfit, and what you wear says a lot about who you are as a person. It can be easy to go wrong even when you think you’ve done everything right. Whether you are dressing up or dressing casually, the most important thing is that you choose to wear what makes you feel beautiful.

Sometimes it can take years to figure out what makes you feel more like yourself, it did me. It isn’t always about feeling pretty, it is about feeling comfortable, balanced and confident. Pick out what works in coordination with the event.

When your accompanying friends that know the host and your uncertain about the details of the party, select your dress for the evening to be simple but sophisticated. Look for A-line, straight lines with little detailing in your accessories or jewelry. A simple dress with a few classic pieces of jewelry is always appropriate. If I select a glittery dress, I’m careful to only wear dazzling earrings and bracelet. Too much jewelry with a glittery dress will confuse what you want others to focus on. Draw attention to one thing in your outfit you want to highlight and stick to that logic. Never overdo it.

There are certain elements I tend to look for after many trial and error occasions.

Jewel tones – Dresses in jewel-tone colors like bright colors with simple classic cuts is a way to add a standout element to my outfit. Bright colors are fun and are fashion sassy.

Colors that match the season – this may seem old-fashion but I like sticking to the palettes that coordinate with the season. You never want to stand out in a negative way. Choose dark colors in the autumn and winter and lighter colors in the spring and summer.

Dresses that leave a little to the imagination – I avoid dresses that are too revealing. Being modest varies from person to person, and its all about what each person feels comfortable wearing. Concentrate on your dress to highlight one part of your body at one time. Show off your shoulders, your legs, or just your body shape. Choose that one thing and cover everything else. It will make you feel elegant, but not exposed or uncomfortable.

Remember, when selecting the right outfit to celebrate the New Year be sure to move around in it a little when trying it on. It may look great while your standing still, but you want to know how it looks when you lean forward, get out of a car, sit down or dance. You certainly don’t want a wardrobe malfunction while having a good time! New Year’s Eve party dress should be simple but elegant!
