Tuesday night, March 6th, city employee Nevis Rankin was named by the Magee Chamber of Commerce as the Spirit of Magee! The award is chosen by a secret committee appointed by the Chamber President.

Nelvis is a graduate of Magee High School. He and his wife Myrtis have three children and nine grandchildren. He has attended numerous continuing education programs at Mississippi College and is a graduate of Faith Bible School. Nelvis and Myrtis have been married for 43 years. They attend Faith 4 Life church where he is a deacon and serves in the outreach ministry.

Nelvis began working for the city of Magee in 1973 on a temporary work program. He has worked in every department of the public works department and can operate every piece of equipment that the city owns.

Nelvis now serves as the Superintendent of the Public Works department for the city of Magee. His job requires a tremendous knowledge of water, sewer, streets, sanitation, drainage, solid waste disposal, maintenance of public property, mosquito control, and flood control.

Nelvis has gained valuable experience through his years of service. He is always willing to help those with special needs and special events.  He truly loves the Magee Trojans and the entire Magee community.
Nelvis is a very kind and humble man who always puts his community first. His wonderful wife Myrtis is very supportive and understanding of all of the work that Nelvis does for the city and his church.

For his beyond the call of duty support of his city, church, and school, Nelvis Rankin was named the 2018 Spirit of Magee

Congratulations to Nelvis and his family.

*Sue note: Nelvis attends all the Board of Aldermen Meetings. At each meeting, the department heads give a report. It’s almost a joke when the Mayor calls on Nelvis for a report…he doesn’t like to speak in public and rarely says anything at the meetings. I was present at one meeting when Nelvis stood up and said something. I can tell you everyone listened!!!
