Major Sherwood Lamar “Woody” Emory, Jr., 80, passed away at his residence on Monday, March 5, 2018. He was born on September 8, 1937, to the late Sherwood Lamar Emory, Sr. and Ernestine (Berry) Emory in West Monroe, LA.

Woody loved his country and faithfully served in the United States Army until his retirement in 1980. He served as a medic and pilot and received numerous medals and awards. He flew helicopters in the Vietnam War.

Woody graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana State University in 1974. He enjoyed supporting his LSU fighting Tigers.

After retiring from the Army, he worked for MP&L/Entergy as a contract administrator until his retirement.
Woody was a devoted Christian husband, father, and grandfather. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Shirley (Hemby) Emory; sons, Paul Emory (Mary Beth) of Louisville, KY; John Brinson (Robin) of Wesson; Luke Emory (Rebecca) of Madison, AL; daughter, Theresa Brinson Holbrook (Chip) of Mendenhall; grandchildren, Ian Emory, Aiden Emory, Ethan Emory, Evan Emory, Jacob Holbrook, Amber Brinson, Hannah Holbrook, Cooper Brinson and Maddox Emory.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia.

Visitation for friends will be Friday, March 9, 2018, at Corinth Baptist Church in Magee from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. The service will be held at 2:00 p.m. with interment following in Corinth Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted with Tutor Funeral Home of Magee.
