I think one of the greatest compliments given to some one is to say they are sweet and kind. We do not have enough kindness in our world.
Nan Craven was a sweet and kind person. When she died Saturday night, October 13, 2018, our city lost a kind person who loved her church, her family, her friends, and our city.
Jack and Nan lived next door to me all my “growing up” years. She and Jack were there for the good times and the bad times. She was a rock in the later years of my mama’s life.
Nan worked for years at State Guaranty Bank. She was a church and choir member at FBC forever! I don’t remember Nan not singing. Nan, Ora Mae McAlpin, and Carolyn Stephens had a trio that sang in church and at area civic events. They were wonderful! Nan was faithful to the end at FBC. Nan was a person you could rely on…she helped others. For years she was very involved with the WMU of FBC and had an influence on my love for missions.
Really, I don’t know anything bad about Nan! …and if you’ve lived next to someone for 60 years…that says a lot!
I will miss Nan. I know she is singing in the heavenly choir and enjoying her family and friends who went before her.
Nan graduated from Magee High School. Her family lived in the white house next to St Stephens Catholic Church. The home is still owned by the family.
Visitation and funeral for Nan is Thursday, October 18th from 1:30-2:30 and the funeral at 2:30 at her beloved church, First Baptist Church of Magee.
I thank God for Nan Craven and the life she lived. She will be missed.
Nan’s neighbor Beth Moore wrote a lovely tribute to Nan on Facebook. Click here to read the post.
Mary Catherine Smith Benefield sent me this message….I just wanted to share what Mary Catherine thought about Nan: “how precious she was to me. From teaching me at church to singing in our wedding, she was always so kind and gracious. Heaven is brighter cause she’s there with that kind smile, and the harmonies are richer with her sweet voice joining in.”
She will be greatly missed. She and my Mama got their hair fixed in the same day at Marcie’s and they became good friends. The Friday before my Mama passed away she and Nan were at the beauty shop and they had a great time singing for Marcie. Such a sweet lady.
