TUPELO, MS – The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) presented Todd and Candy Wheeler with the Outstanding Achievement Award on Wednesday, September 26, 2024. The award was presented by Major Jason Young, along with Stephan Russell and Jeff Rosamond from Tombigbee State Park, and 1st District Commissioner Colin Maloney.
The Wheelers were recognized for being instrumental with the development and upkeep of over 13 miles of mountain bike trails at Tombigbee State Park. The trails are open to the public year-round and 24-hours a day, with access dependent on weather conditions.
Since 2015, in addition to daily use, these trails have hosted numerous mountain bike races transforming the park into a destination for mountain bikers from across the country.
“We are proud to honor the Wheelers for their dedication and hard work in creating an exceptional outdoor experience at Tombigbee State Park, which continues to attract visitors and support the local community,” said Mississippi State Parks Director, Andre Hollis.
