Jackson, Miss.—Mississippi’s online business filing system recently received national accolades in the Center for Digital Government’s Digital Government Achievement Awards.  In all, the Center recognized five states, including Mississippi, for outstanding achievement in the Government-to-Business category.

Prior to January 2015, most business documents had to be filed in hard copy in Mississippi.  Now, users register on the online portal and the Secretary of State’s web site permits them to file business documents, order certificates, or request certified copies of documents with the click of a mouse.  Since January 2015, the online portal site has received more than 1.2 Million hits.

“Bringing new businesses to the State, and ensuring the ones already here stay in Mississippi and continue to prosper, requires us to make it as easy as possible to file reports and meet other legal and administrative requirements,” Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said. “Making our site user-friendly has been a priority from the very first for me, and I commend our Information Technology staff for making that priority a reality.”

Charlie Case, Chief Information Officer for the Secretary of State’s Office, agreed.

“Society is moving toward becoming entirely web-driven,” Case said. “I’m grateful to be a part of a team that believes technology can provide a means for government, businesses, and the public to meet.”

In all, the Center recognized about thirty (30) 2016 Digital Government Achievement awardees in seven (7) categories.  The awards laud agency and department web sites and projections at the application and infrastructure level.  All United States and international government agencies at all levels may enter actively functioning, fully operational applications and projects.
