DSC_1227The Steering Committee for the Mississippi Scholars met Wednesday to make plans for the 2015-2016 year.

With the resignation of Jamie Rogers as President new officers were elected.

Serving as President is Patrice Boykin, Vice President Fontaine McNair, Secretary/Treasurer Richard Rankin and Directors are Anika Floyd, Dwayne Middleton, and Veronica Brown. The program started in Simpson County in 2005 under the direction of the Simpson County Leadership Class with Darnell Moffett, who stills plays a vital role in the program. Since that time the program has grown to the point where the committee along with the help of Colin are able to give 6 Scholarships per year to Simpson County Students from all three local high schools.

Last year the Tech program was introduced. In addition to the six scholarships that were given the committee was able to give two additional scholarships to the Technical Center for their eligible students. Now the total number of scholarships given has increased to eight. Of these eight, five are funded by the MS Scholars Committee and the other three are provided by Copiah Lincoln Community College.

IMG_2790We would love to grown this program even more. This is not able without the help of you the individuals. We have set up a fundly account and gladly accept any donations. Please help us keep this program going. https://fundly.com/simpson-county-scholars
