Carrie Lou Abernathy, 74 of Mendenhall, MS went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 13, 2025 at her residence in Mendenhall, MS. She was born Friday, February 10, 1950 in Independence, LA.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee, 302 Eighth Ave SW, Magee, MS. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 3:00pm at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee. Burial will follow in Abernathy Family Cemetery in Mendenhall, MS. Bro. George Owens and Magaret Bishop will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031

Carrie Lou had a big heart, she would help anyone and everyone she could. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She had a heart of gold and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Redmond; mother, Ethel Newman Redmond; brothers, Hubert Redmond and Willie Lee Redmond; grandson, Braxton Higgins.

Survivors include her loving husband of 45 years, James Abernathy; sons, Bobby (Connie), Billy (Ashley) and James “Bubba” (Sandy); daughters, Carolyn, Marilyn (Travis), Brenda (Steve) and Amanda (Calvin “Cocky”); brother, William “Bull” Redmond; sister, Jo Ann Higgins; 22 Grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family.

Pallbearers will be Robert, Michael, Justin, Randy, Tyler, Christopher, Braden, Benjamin, Levi, Cocky, Cody, and Alex.
