Magee High School announce Top of the Class for 2020. Magee High School Valedictorian is Emily Reed. Salutatorian is Macie West and Historian is Pooja Patel.

Emily Reed, MHS Valedictorian, is the 17 year old daughter of Lisa Reed and Steven Reed of Magee. Emily has lived in Magee all of her life. She is an active member of First Baptist Church and has also enjoyed working at Dairy Queen for the past two years.

When asked how she would describe her years at Magee high, she quickly said “My years at MHS have been some of the best years of my life. We are a family. No matter what, when we need to pull together, we do.”

While at Magee, she has been an active member of the Bible Club, Beta Club, student council, Science Club and the newly formed Math Honor Society. She was inducted into the Science National Honor Society and the National Honor Society in 10th grade. She enjoyed being a member of the Simpson County Youth Leadership Council in 11th grade. Emily has received the Who’s Who award for Best School Spirit, the Citizenship award, Most Talented and Most Likely to Succeed. She has been a Superintendent’s Scholar all four years and has a current 4.0 GPA. Emily is the Valedictorian for the Class of 2020 and is also the Star Student this year.
She is the Student Body President of MHS this year after serving as Class President during her sophomore and junior years. She is the Section Captain for the saxophone section in the MHS Band. While in the band, she has played the mallets, the bass drum and the saxophone. She also plays the piano and enjoys playing for the youth worship band at church.

Emily loves to travel and has a goal of visiting all 50 states by time she turns 21. (She’s getting pretty close! Currently stands at 30) Her dream trip is to visit Pompeii, Italy. She is fascinated by the story of Pompeii. Emily also enjoys mission trips with her church, spending time with her friends, playing music and attending concerts.

This fall, Emily will be attending college at Mississippi State University where she has accepted a band scholarship offer to play in the Famous Maroon Band and also has been accepted into the Shackouls Honors College. She plans to major in social work. She hopes to use her job as a way to help others and make their lives better.

Macie West, MHS Salutatorian, is Class President, Beta Club President, Mu Alpha Theta President, Drum Major for Magee High School Marching Band, Co-Editor on the Yearbook Staff, a part of National Honor Society, and in Media Club. Macie is class Salutatorian and graduates with High Honors. She has received numerous awards in school, such as: Introduction to AgriScience Award, Health Class Award, Algebra II Award, US History Award, ACT Club Award, Citizenship Award, and Superintendents Scholar every year of high school. She has received the Volleyball Trojan Award and the Conductors Award in Band. She has also has three Superior Drum Major Awards. Macie has received Who’s Who Class Friendliest, Most Talented, Best Dressed, and two Best-All Around Awards. In a State Crime Scene Investigation competition, Macie placed second.

Maci represented Magee High School in Lion’s Club Leadership Camp and is a recipient for Girl’s State. She was also selected for the Future Leaders of Simpson County Program. Macie was on the 2018 and 2019 homecoming court. She has received essay and spirit  scholarships through the Distinguished Young Women Program, along with other scholarships. Macie was selected as one of 30 students across the country to attend FBI Teen Academy at the FBI Headquarters in Mobile, Alabama. She is very active at Overflow Church were she helps lead youth worship and works with young children in BigSteps.

Macie will continue her education at Copiah-Lincoln Community College as a member of the Blue Wave Marching Band and choir before transferring to the University of Southern Mississippi. She will major in Criminal Justice with an emphasis on Forensic Science. Macie plans to become a Homicide Detective in the future to “bring justice for victims and peace for families.”

Pooja Patel, MHS Historian, is a senior at Magee High School. Pooja has a 4.0 GPA and is the Class of 2020 Historian. While attending MHS, she completed 19 hours of college credit at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. She has served as a member of the MHS Beta Club, National Honor Society, FFA, and Science National Honor Society. She also participated in the Magee High School Band. Pooja is attending Millsaps College in the fall, where she plans to earn her Bachelor’s of Science in nursing with a minor in psychology. As a proud Indian Hindu, she has volunteered at the Jackson Swaminarayan Mandir for years.

Pooja Patel is the daughter of Parul Patel and Rashmin Patel and has a younger brother, Poojan.
