Prior to joining Magee General, Stephen worked as Director of Nursing for Children’s of Mississippi. She has spent the last 20 years in a myriad of leadership roles within Batson Children’s Hospital at the University of Mississippi Medical Center including Children’s emergency, lab, rehabilitation services, transport services, and inpatient and outpatient departments. Her passion is making sure the teams taking care of patients have everything they need to do their jobs well. She believes the two most important leadership qualities are honesty and authenticity.

Growing up in Mize, Mississippi, Jennifer graduated from Raleigh High School. She went on to Jones County Junior College to begin prerequisites for nursing, eventually finishing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, cum laude, from University of Mississippi School of Nursing in 2000. She continued her education at the University of Mississippi, earning both her Master of Science in Nursing in 2010 and defending her doctoral thesis with a focus on pain and bias in 2020.

In addition to her commitment to serving the patients and colleagues with whom she is privileged to have worked, Jennifer is married to Scott, owner of Taziki’s in Hattiesburg, and mom to Elliott (17), Ava Kathryn (15), and Cy (14).
