JACKSON, Miss. – Investigators with the Mississippi Agricultural and Livestock Theft Bureau (MALTB), in cooperation with the Covington County Sheriff’s Office, have arrested a suspect in connection with the theft of livestock from a rural property in Covington County.

Weston Herrington, age 33, of Jones County was arrested on September 22, 2025, and charged with felony theft of livestock. The arrest follows an investigation initiated after five head of cattle, valued at approximately $10,000, were reported stolen from a property in Covington County.

MALTB investigators and Covington County sheriff’s deputies quickly coordinated efforts to identify the suspect and recover the stolen cattle. The investigation remains ongoing, and the stolen cattle have been located and returned to their rightful owner.

MALTB Director Dean Barnard stated, “Our cattle producers are the backbone of Mississippi agriculture. When someone steals livestock, they’re not just committing theft — they’re harming families, businesses and entire communities. I commend our MALTB investigators and local law enforcement partners in Covington County for working swiftly to protect our farmers and enforce the law.”

Sheriff Darrell Perkins said, “Agricultural crimes will not be tolerated in Covington County. Our deputies are committed to working closely with state partners like the Mississippi Agriculture and Livestock Theft Bureau to protect the farming community and bring offenders to justice.”

Weston Herrington is currently being held at the Covington County Jail. Additional charges may be pending as the investigation continues.

Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact the Mississippi Agricultural and Livestock Theft Bureau at (800) 678-2660 or the Covington County Sheriff’s Office at (601) 765-8281.

The Mississippi Agricultural and Livestock Theft Bureau enforces state laws pertaining to the theft of cattle, horses, swine, poultry, fish, farm equipment, chemicals, timber and all other farm or agriculture-related crimes.
