Merridee Elaine Yates

( October 13, 1936 – February 16, 2020 )

Merridee Elaine Yates, 83, of Taylorsville Mississippi, passed away at Calvary Homes in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on Sunday, February 16, 2020. She was born on Tuesday, October 13, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville, Mississippi.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Taylorsville. The burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Bro. Gary Robertson will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of the arrangements. 601-785-6564

Mrs. Yates was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a retired public school teacher who loved reading, traveling, participating in short-term missions’ trips, and teaching others.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howell Yates; her parents, James M. and Geraldine A. Love.

Survivors include her sons, Woodrow Yates of Taylorsville; and Steve Yates (Lisa) of Lancaster, PA; four grandchildren, James Yates (Nica) of Lancaster, PA; Raymond Yates (Madelyn) of Lancaster, PA; Kayla Yates of Laurel; and Lauren Yates of Lancaster, PA; one great-grandchild, Mirah Joy Yates (James & Nica); and a host of other family members.
