Students from Mendenhall High School held their induction into Mu Alpha Theta, Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Copiah Lincoln Community College Simpson Campus.
Members inducted were as follows: Will Jones, Alexandra Craft, Michael smith, Grant Miller, Kennedy Hanna, Jasmine Decker, Destiny Booth, Colin Barnes, Anna Tate, Schelbi Sheffield, Cameron Magee, Ja’Sya Funches, Megan Brown, and Kentrell Ayers.
The following students serve as officers: Emily holder – President, Kennedy Hanna – Vice President, Jaleayah Harper – Secretary, and Zora Doss – Treasurer.
Mu Alpha Theta is the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society. Mu alpha Theta is dedicated to inspiring a keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students.
High School requirements are as follows:
Membership, High School Chapter:
- Members must be high school students in grades 9 through 12.
- Members must be registered with MAT at the school at which their permanent records reside.
- Members must have completed the equivalent of two years of college preparatory mathematics, including algebra and/or geometry, and have completed or are enrolled in a third year of college preparatory mathematics.
- On the 4-point grading scale, members must have at least a 3.0 math grade point average.
