Auditor’s Office Arrests Quitman County Coroner and Co-Conspirator

JACKSON, Miss. – Today State Auditor Shad White announced that Special Agents from his office have arrested Randy Hester, Quitman County Coroner, and Brenda Pittman, Hester’s aunt, for allegedly submitting fraudulent invoices to Quitman County, under the disguise of a fictitious business name, for services he did not provide.

Hester and Pittman opened a bank account under a fictitious business they created called MFC Transit. Bank records listed Hester’s personal address as the business address for the account. Hester allegedly submitted invoices for the transportation of bodies using MFC Transit. Hester then charged the county for transporting bodies that were transported by other funeral homes.

“The dedicated team at the State Auditor’s Office will continue to work closely with prosecutors to get record results, one case at a time,” said State Auditor Shad White.

Hester faces up to $10,000 in fines and up to 10 years in prison if convicted. Pittman faces up to 5 years in prison if convicted. All persons arrested by the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Suspected fraud can be reported to the Auditor’s office at any time by clicking the red button on the Auditor’s website or calling 1-(800)-321-1275 during normal business hours.
