“Mendenhall Junior High and Magee Middle School are participants in a national program designed to evaluate the impact of teacher incentives on student progress, The grant provides a Master Teacher and stipends for two Mentor Teachers and a Professional Development Coordinator at each school site. Teachers also receive stipends or bonus payments at the end of the year for showing progress in core academic areas and for overall school growth.

Mendenhall Junior High earned the high level incentives for School Level Growth; Subject area growth in Science; and grade level growth in the eighth grade. Tim Shelton, science teacher, showed the most overall growth with 73% of his students in science showing significant growth from last year to this year. These areas earned Mendenhall Junior High the lower level incentives: Subject area in Math; Subject area in Language; and grade level growth in fifth, sixth, and seventh grades.

Magee Middle School earned lower level growth incentives in Subject area Math and grade level growth in the seventh and eighth grades. Kristi Mangum showed the best growth rate amongst Magee Middle Math teachers with 62% of her students showing significant growth from last year.”
