Mendenhall High School Student Participates in World Food Prize Mississippi Youth Institute
Mendenhall High School junior Jaden Johnson recently participated in discussions regarding global food security during the 2022 World Food Prize Mississippi Youth Institute.
A partnership between the World Food Prize Foundation and Mississippi State University (MSU), the Mississippi Youth Institute provides a life-changing experience for high school students to engage with local leaders and experts on critical global challenges, participate in hands-on activities and explore exciting ways to make a difference in Mississippi and around the world.
During the programming, Johnson presented extensive research on food safety in India, how it poses a threat to the country’s population, and her ideas to solve the challenge.
As a participant of the institute, Johnson is now recognized as a Borlaug Scholar – a special recognition named in honor of World Food Prize founder and 1970 Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, who led worldwide initiatives that contributed to the extensive increases in agricultural production termed the Green Revolution. She is also eligible to be selected for a $500 scholarship to study in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at MSU and is qualified for internships and other opportunities.
