MDAC Releases Honey-Themed Podcast Featuring Guests from Stone and Yazoo Counties

JACKSON, Miss. – Today, the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce (MDAC) releases the latest episode of its Freshly Picked podcast series, titled “The Buzz on Beekeeping: Mississippi’s Sweetest Crop,” featuring special guests Steven Coy of Coy Bee Company in Wiggins and Kip Isonhood of Yazoo Honey and Bee Farm in Tinsley.

Within this episode, Podcast Host Claude Nash and guests dive into the world of beekeeping and the unique qualities of Mississippi honey. Coy started the Coy Bee Company in 2014 where he utilizes Russian bee queens and sells honey by the bucket. Coy currently serves as the vice president of the American Honey Producers Association. During the podcast, he describes the advantages of joining beekeeping organizations for honey producers.

Isonhood started his honey operation in 2012, and he credits his success to making personal connections and building lasting relationships with the local community. Today, he sells raw honey to grocery stores, restaurants and other businesses across Yazoo City and the Jackson area. Both Coy and Isonhood go on to talk about the challenges of maintaining bee farms, the process of harvesting honey and tips for aspiring beekeepers.

Hear their personal stories and much more in this special, honey-themed episode today at 9:30 a.m. by visiting www.msfreshlypicked.com or any major podcast platform.

The Freshly Picked podcast series, developed by MDAC, will feature 24 episodes and include specialty crop farmers, experts, entrepreneurs and/or chefs as they tell the stories behind their farms, businesses and the unique products they offer.
