On Saturday February 9, churches and volunteers from the Simpson County area gathered together to invest back in the community. McNair Springs, an iconic part of the City of Magee, has been recently seen by many as an area in need of attention. Cooper Carrico, a sophomore at Simpson Academy, had the idea to better his community by cleaning up the area. In partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Keep Magee Beautiful, Cooper was able to take the first steps of cleaning up this area. This weekend saw many churches across the county participating in the annual Disciple Now; most churches seek an opportunity to serve on the Saturday of this weekend and this event was something they were able to be apart of. Students could be seen painting, clearing debris, bagging leaves, and various activities. This cleanup is just the first step, with the city looking to obtain a grant for more projects and the Great American Cleanup Kickoff will be held in Magee April 6. Thank you to all involved that continue to invest in the community by offering your time, services, and attention. Below are some pictures from the event and a LIVE interview with Cooper Carrico, Chris Purdum, and Lauralyn Barr.

Leeman Cockerell prepared hamburgers for everyone to fuel up on before work began.

Students and Alderman Angel Brister painted markers lining the road to the pavilion. From left to right; Angel Brister, Emily Reed, and Kaitlyn.

Students can be seen applying a fresh coat of paint to the pavilion.

Limbs were cleared from the creek area along with other areas that had become over grown.

Ditches that had become filled with dirt and other debris were cleared of obstruction.
