On Saturday February 9, churches and volunteers from the Simpson County area gathered together to invest back in the community. McNair Springs, an iconic part of the City of Magee, has been recently seen by many as an area in need of attention. Cooper Carrico, a sophomore at Simpson Academy, had the idea to better his community by cleaning up the area. In partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Keep Magee Beautiful, Cooper was able to take the first steps of cleaning up this area. This weekend saw many churches across the county participating in the annual Disciple Now; most churches seek an opportunity to serve on the Saturday of this weekend and this event was something they were able to be apart of. Students could be seen painting, clearing debris, bagging leaves, and various activities. This cleanup is just the first step, with the city looking to obtain a grant for more projects and the Great American Cleanup Kickoff will be held in Magee April 6.
