On Monday, January 3, 2022, Mayor Dale Berry presented his State of the City address on MageeNews.com. Mayor Berry emphasized the importance of continue Sales Tax growth. “The last two years we have set sales tax records. We are online to do this again,” stated Berry.
Continued problems with the Pandemic
Two more restaurants coming at the old Western Sizzling (Pizza Hut and Checkers). Berry is working to get a Butcher Shop to Magee.
Along with David Dunn, Mayor Berry is working on developing a horse arena in the McNair Springs area. The Mayor feels the arena could potentially create as much revenue as the Sportsplex.
Because of a grant, the lagoon will be cleaned during the up coming year.
The Mayor discussed how the ARP money will be used. Possibly the ARP money may be used for paving…all details are not worked out at this time.
Garbage bills will increase for businesses in the coming year. After a study, the Mayor realized many business were paying very low amounts. The charge will be matched to the amount of garbage collected at the business. Mayor Berry stated no residential bills will increase.
The importance of bagging all trash was discussed. Loose garbage will not be picked up…everything must be in bags. Bags cannot weigh over 50 lbs.
“We are continuing to push for our town to be cleaned”, said Mayor Berry.
A rental ordinance as well as a burn ordinance is in the works.
The City continues to work on requiring cameras at all apartment complexes and an on site manager.
Cameras are coming for McNair Springs, Marvin Jackson Park, Ural Everett Park, and the City Cemetery.
The Mayor continues to work on land be donating to the city near the City cemetery
“A new city attorney will be named Tuesday night at the Board meeting (January 4, 2022),” Dale emphasized.
