Mattie Ruth Grubbs Bridges was the fifth of seven daughters born to J.A. (Alonzo) Grubbs and Sarah Maude (Millis) Grubbs on October 11, 1929.

Mattie and her six sisters, which they became popularly known as the seven Grubs Sister, grew up in the Old Westville area of Pinola (Simpson County), Mississippi. She always told her family and friends how much she loved Old Westville! Her children, grands, and great-grandchildren, were always attentive to the many stories of what Life was like growing up in “The Depression” era. Life was hard but her parents instilled hard work ethics in all of their daughters, who in return passed that same ethic down to their own children.

She graduated from Pinola High School in 1950 where she was named “Miss Pinola High” during her senior year. Not too long after graduation, she met and married H.H. Bridges. Their union produced three children: Danny, Charlotte, and David, that she loved dearly and they loved her so much! Mrs. Mattie was affectionately known as “The Sheriff of Westville” because she “looked out” for everyone around that area she loved being referred to as “The Sheriff” and thought it was an honor.

This sweet lady will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends. One thing that we will all remember is anytime her children, grands, or great-grandchildren would leave after visiting her she would always tell them “I’ll see ya later!” and not “Good-bye” so in your memory we aren’t saying “Goodbye” Mama and Mamaw just “We’ll see ya later!” over on Heaven’s shore some sweet day!

She was preceded in death by husband, Henry Harvel Bridges; parents, John and Sarah Grubbs; grandson, Landon Bridges; great- grandchildren, Charlee Jo Creel and Matthew Cooper Bridges; five sisters, Dorothy, Mary Nell, Edna, Sue, and Jeannie.

Survivors include her three children, Danny Bridges (Brynda), Charlotte Holbrook and David Bridges (Sara); grandchildren, Shawn Bridges, Chad Bridges (Summer), Blake Bridges (Madison), Brian Burney (Amy), Billy Burney (Holly), Cody Holbrook, Vicki Parker, Jamie Creel (Peyton) and Jonathan Bridges; great-grandchildren, Gannon Burney, Garrett Burney, Ross Burney, Macy Burney, Brody Parker, Corbin Steed, Declan Bridges, Grayson Bridges, Meila Creel, Evie Madison, and Jackson Webb; sister, Margaret McAlister; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Bridges, Chad Bridges, Blake Bridges, Brian Burney, Billy Burney, Cody Holbrook, and Jonathan Bridges.

We want to thank Sta-Home Hospice Nannette Rankin and Leisa Berry for the love and care they showed to our mother.
