Matthew Harrison, son of Jaynie and Mack Harrison, is a goal “setter.” He constantly sets goals for himself. I met Matthew about 5 or 6 years ago through Brandon Johnston. Matthew appeared at my house along with a bunch of Brandon’s friends to build me a tiki hut. (Brandon thought I needed a tiki hut to go with the pool—I think those guys just liked to build stuff!) Matthew is precious…very dear to my heart. I continued to keep up with Matthew during school at SCA. (He was home-schooled before enrolling at SCA as a junior.).

I don’t think I’ve ever known a young man so dedicated to others. Now, I am not saying Matthew didn’t strive for his own accomplishments, but Matthew always put others first. On and off the court or field, Matthew was looking out for the other guy.

Upon graduation from SCA, Matthew received a baseball scholarship to Meridian Community College. He had an outstanding freshmen year…and another outstanding sophomore year. As the year wound down, Matthew was unsure of his future. He wanted to continue baseball. After his team made it to the regionals, Matthew was spotted by Nicholas State (Louisiana) and was offered a scholarship at the D-1 school. Matthew came in as the relief pitcher and in his words, “pitched the best game of my life!” Through continued prayer and soul searching, Matthew is following the path of his dreams. He will spend the summer in training for fall ball.

Memorial Day – A Time of Remembrance and Reflection

May 25, 2026

Matthew makes a difference not only on the baseball field but the field of life. He has participated in several mission trips…but truly, the life Matthew lives is his mission field.

Matthew is majoring in accounting. He completed Meridian CC with a 3.8 GPA.

Matthew’s brother, Michael, graduated from Arkansas-Monticello in 2018 where he had an outstanding pitching career. His daddy, Mack, played short stop for the Oakland A’s for 8 years. Mack went in the 6th round of the draft straight out of Laurel High School.

I hope you will enjoy Matthew’s interview. I want you to see and feel the person he is! I love this boy deeply and wish for him the best! He never forgets his friend, Miss Sue!
