Mary Frances Davis, 66, died Monday, December 28, 2015 at the University Medical Center, Jackson, Mississippi, after a long battle against liver disease.

Fran was born in Simpson County, Mississippi on September 13, 1949, to the late Carroll A. Myrick and Betty Walker Olney.  She married Allen Davis February 10, 1967.  Allen’s retirement from the military led to them making Mendenhall their home.  They had two children, Mark Davis and Dawn Layton and two grandchildren, Lauren and Ethan Layton.

Fran, affectionately known as Sister, received her nursing pin at the age of 42.  Most of her career was spent at Simpson General Hospital where she worked as a floor and ER nurse.  She had a great love for her patients. Her care and compassion showed through her tender touch and the things she would do to make their time of injury or sickness the most comfortable she could.

Sister enjoyed life.  Some of her favorite things to do were to walk around the yard with Allen looking at her beautiful flowers and garden, cooking for and visiting with her family and friends and playing with her grandchildren.  She also loved to search for and pick up special rocks and read.

Fran is proceeded in death by her parents, stepfather Norman Olney, stepmother May Myrick, brother Jimmy Myrick and nephew Austin Smith.

Survivors include: her husband, Allen Davis of Mendenhall; son, Mark Davis of Mendenhall; daughter, Dawn Layton (Jasper) of Mendenhall; granchildren Lauren and Ethan Layton of Mendenhall; sisters, Carol Hux (Billy) of Mendenhall, Elaine Sanders (Billy) of MtView, AR, and Jeannie Loper (Niki) of Wesson; brothers, Tommy Myrick (Polly) of College Station, TX, Tony Olney (Tina) of Mendenhall and Frank Olney of Richland; and two aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Sister was a kind and generous woman that will be missed by all those who knew her.

Visitation will be held at Colonial Chapel in Mendenhall from 5:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 30, 2015.

The service will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Colonial Chapel in Mendenhall.
