Mary Ellen Smith, 86 of Raleigh, MS passed away Friday, May 16, 2025 at the Jasper General Nursing Home in Bay Springs, MS. She was born Saturday, September 3, 1938 in Puckett, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee. Burial will follow in Eastside Baptist Church Cemetery in Raleigh, Mississippi. Bro. Stevie Hand will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031.
She loved working in her yard, tending to her flowers, and quilting, and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. Additionally, she enjoyed cutting her grass with a push mower. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and family. Her motherly love extended not just to her children and grandchildren but to every child she encountered.

She was preceded in death by her son, William Vincent Warren;  parents, William  Thara  Gates and  Debbie Lee Robinson Gates;  grandchild, Jessie  James  Beech;  brothers, Farrell  Miller  Gates and David  Robinson  Gates;  sons-in-law, Jonathan  Wade  Davis and Odis  Norman  Kennedy.

Survivors include her son, Ivan  Warren  (Shelia);  daughters, Wanda  Kennedy, Latricia  Beech  (James ) and Lori Nicole Bryant (Jeff);  grandchildren, Daniel  Warren, Wesley  Warren, Brandy  Jones, Misty  Kennedy, Odis  Kennedy, Zackary  Warren, Hunter  Davis, Myia  Grimme  (Nick);  brothers, William  Wendall  Gates, Thomas  Kylie  Gates;  sister, Virgina  Gail  Gates; 18  great-grandchildren; 9 great-great- grandchildren;  and numerous  nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Warren, Wesley Warren, James (Jimbo) Beech, Hunter Davis, Odis Kennedy (Peanut), and Ayden Bryant.
