Martha Carolyn Ainsworth Thornton, 94, of Braxton, Mississippi, passed away from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Saturday, April 24, 2021, in Mendenhall, Mississippi. She was born Saturday, September 25, 1926, in Jackson, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Braxton City Cemetery in Braxton, Mississippi.

A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Braxton City Cemetery. Bro. Richard Rankin will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall is in charge of arrangements. (601) 847-4401

Mrs. Thornton was a member of Braxton United Methodist Church.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.  She enjoyed working outside in her yard and spending time with her loving family.  She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Ray Thornton; parents, Oliver Clarence Ainsworth. Sr. and Addie Keen Ainsworth; two sons, Anthony Weeks and Timothy Weeks; and two sisters, Hazel Evans and Mable Ainsworth.

Survivors include her three children, Trent Weeks and wife, Connie, of Mendenhall, Penny Carolyn Muirhead, and husband, Robert, of Florence, and Mark Weeks and wife, Kim, of Richland; thirteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; one brother, Oliver Clarence Ainsworths, Jr. and wife, Sandy, of Baton Rouge, LA; one sister, Betty Muriel Compere of Braxton; and a host of other family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
